PCB Appoints Wahab Riaz:
Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former pacer Wahab Riaz as the director of its newly launched domestic competitions. These tournaments include the Champions One-Day Cup, the Champions T20 Cup, and the Champions First-Class Cup, introduced earlier this year as part of PCB efforts to elevate domestic cricket.
In his new role, Wahab will oversee the management and execution of these major tournaments, ensuring their smooth operation and alignment with PCB objectives.
Wahab Riaz’s Journey with PCB
Wahab Riaz’s appointment comes after a rollercoaster stint with the cricket board. He previously served as a member of the national men’s selection committee and as the team manager during the ICC Men’s T20 earlier this year. However, following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the tournament, both Wahab and Mansoor Rana were removed from their respective roles.
Reports at the time suggested that their removal stemmed from challenges in maintaining discipline within the national team. Addressing dismissal, Wahab expressed his commitment to Pakistan cricket and refrained from engaging in public blame games.
In a heartfelt statement, the left-arm pacer said, “It has been an honor to serve as part of the selection panel. I have always acted with faith and sincerity, giving my 100% for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. We made selection decisions as a team and shared the responsibility equally.”
