PIA to Resume Flights to Europe:
PIA to Resume Flights to Europe: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced it will resume flights to Europe in January 2025, starting with Paris. This comes after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) lifted a three-year ban imposed in 2020.
Suspension Stemming from Safety Concerns
The ban was enforced due to concerns about Pakistan’s compliance with international aviation standards. These concerns were amplified after a tragic plane crash in Karachi that claimed 97 lives. Investigations revealed issues with pilot licenses, which led to the suspension of PIA’s authorization to operate in Europe.
First Flight Scheduled for January 10
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan confirmed the airline has received approval for its first flight schedule. “We have got approval for the first flight’s schedule we had filed,” he stated. Bookings for the flight will open on December 9, and the inaugural Boeing 777 flight to Paris is scheduled for January 10. This marks a significant step as PIA prepares to resume flights to Europe.
Plans to Expand Operations to the UK
Beyond Paris, PIA is aiming to restart operations in the United Kingdom. The airline plans to seek clearance from the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) to operate flights to London, Manchester, and Birmingham, which have been identified as priority destinations.

A Step Towards Recovery
The suspension of operations in Europe and the UK significantly impacted PIA, restricting its international reach and damaging its reputation. The decision to resume flights to Europe is a critical move in restoring the airline’s standing and reconnecting with global markets.
Looking to the Future
By resuming flights to Europe, PIA is taking a pivotal step toward reclaiming its position as a trusted international carrier. The airline hopes this relaunch will enhance travel connectivity and support its long-term recovery and growth.
